As apex predators, they play a crucial role in maintaining ecological balance within their limited range. Komodo dragons possess a unique venom system and cooperative hunting behavior, making them one of the most formidable reptiles in existence.

Climate change poses a serious threat to Komodo dragons, particularly rising sea levels that endanger their low-lying island habitats. Habitat degradation, human disturbance, and declining prey populations also threaten their survival. Because their range is so restricted, even small environmental changes can have devastating consequences.
