The Spotted Wobbegong (Orectolobus maculatus) is a reef-dwelling shark found along the southern coast of Australia, famous for its ornate camouflage and sedentary, ambush-hunting behavior. Its flattened body and fringed mouth allow it to blend effortlessly with coral and rocky sea floors. While the IUCN currently lists it as Least Concern, local populations may be impacted by overfishing, habitat degradation, and collection for the aquarium trade. Its sluggish lifestyle and limited mobility also make it more susceptible to localized pressures.
