The king cobra is the longest venomous snake in the world and one of the most iconic reptiles of Asia. Found across South and Southeast Asia, it inhabits forests, mangroves, and grasslands. Unlike other cobras, it primarily feeds on other snakes, playing an important role in regulating reptile populations. King cobras are highly intelligent and display rare parental behavior, constructing nests and guarding their eggs until they hatch.

Despite their cultural significance, king cobras are increasingly threatened by habitat destruction, road mortality, and persecution fueled by fear. As forests are cleared, encounters with humans become more frequent, often resulting in the snake being killed. Illegal collection for the wildlife trade and traditional medicine further compounds population declines.
