The Philippine eagle is one of the largest and rarest eagles in the world and the national bird of the Philippines. It depends on vast tracts of old-growth forest and has one of the slowest reproduction rates of any raptor, raising only one chick every two years.

Deforestation and hunting have pushed the species to the brink of extinction. With fewer than 400 breeding pairs remaining, the survival of the Philippine eagle depends entirely on habitat protection and active conservation programs.
