The red panda is a small, arboreal mammal native to the temperate mountain forests of the eastern Himalayas and southwestern China. With its thick rust-colored fur and ringed tail, it is superbly adapted to cold, high-altitude environments. Although it shares a bamboo-based diet with the giant panda, the two species are not closely related. Red pandas rely on dense forest cover and a steady supply of bamboo to survive.

Red panda populations are endangered due to deforestation, infrastructure development, and climate change, which is altering bamboo growth patterns. Habitat fragmentation isolates populations, making it difficult for individuals to find mates. Disease transmission from domestic animals and illegal poaching have further accelerated their decline.
