The red-crowned crane is one of the most revered birds in East Asia, symbolizing longevity, fidelity, and peace. These large, elegant cranes inhabit wetlands, marshes, and river systems in China, Korea, Japan, and parts of Russia. They form lifelong pair bonds and depend on stable wetland ecosystems for breeding and migration.

They are endangered due to widespread wetland loss caused by agricultural expansion, urbanization, and water diversion. Collisions with power lines, climate-driven habitat changes, and shrinking wintering grounds have further reduced their numbers.
